Why a Hotel in Korea May Refuse Your Parcel or Suitcase
A hotel may accept only prepaid items it can match to a confirmed guest and store safely; policies differ. Get written approval for the exact booking name, check-in date, quantity, size, contents, holding terms and liability before shipping.

A hotel in Korea may refuse a parcel or suitcase when the front desk cannot match it to a confirmed guest, payment is still due, or there is nowhere safe to keep it. Put the exact reservation name and check-in date on the item, pay the courier in advance, and get the hotel’s approval before sending anything.
The front desk must be able to identify the owner
A name that looks obvious to you may not match the booking on the hotel’s screen. If the reservation says JANE DOE, a box labeled only “Jane,” a Korean transliteration, or a companion’s name can become an unidentified delivery.
Hotel Koreana’s current parcel instructions ask guests to use the same language and name shown on the reservation, along with the check-in date. Amanti Seoul gives the same warning and says an item may be returned when the guest name cannot be verified.

The date matters just as much. A delivery arriving long before check-in can look like a package for someone who is not staying there, while an item that arrives after checkout may have no active room or reservation attached to it. Hotels set their own holding windows, so a rule from one property is not a rule for the next.
Four reasons a harmless-looking box gets turned away
The label does not resolve to a reservation. The full guest name, spelling, alphabet, and check-in date should match the booking confirmation. Add the reservation number only if the hotel asks for it.
The courier expects payment. “Cash on delivery” or 착불 means the recipient pays at handoff. Sotetsu Fresa Inn Seoul Myeong-dong explicitly says it does not accept cash-on-delivery parcels; shipping must already be paid. A receptionist should never have to advance a courier fee for a guest.
The item is too large, too numerous, or arriving too early. Amanti asks guests to avoid large quantities and oversized items. This is a physical limit, not fussy service: many front desks have a compact storeroom shared by every arrival that day.
It needs special handling. Food, valuables, fragile goods, and anything refrigerated or frozen create extra risk. Koreana asks guests to notify the hotel in advance for cold storage, while Amanti discourages items requiring special care. Ask specifically about alcohol, medicine, batteries, hazardous goods, international or customs-controlled shipments, cash collection and returns; the hotel’s approval does not override carrier or customs restrictions. Do not assume a lobby has a refrigerator, secure vault space, or permission to sign for high-value goods.
One hotel’s locker installation shows how literal the storage question can be. These views from ROKAUS Hotel Seoul Yongsan show a fixed number of compartments in several sizes; another hotel may have only a small back-room shelf.
Write a label the receptionist can solve in five seconds
Use a large, clear label on the outside. Keep the booking name in the same order and alphabet as the reservation.
[HOTEL NAME] — FRONT DESK
Guest: JANE DOE
Check-in: 18 September 2026
Reservation: ABC123 (if requested)
Guest mobile: +[country code and number]
Sender / tracking: [details]
PREPAID / 배송비 선결제
Do not hide this information inside the shipping app’s notes field. The person receiving the box needs to see it without opening anything or calling the courier. Keep a photo of the finished label and the tracking number.
Ask before you book the courier
A quick “Do you accept parcels?” is too vague. The answer can change with the item, arrival date, and available space. Send the hotel this instead:
Hello, I have a reservation under [exact booking name] and will check in on [date]. May I send one prepaid [parcel/suitcase], approximately [dimensions and weight], to arrive on [date]? Please confirm the delivery address, label format, holding window, and any size or item restrictions.
Wait for a written yes from the desk authorized to receive the item, and record any holding period, fee, identification requirement, liability limit and pickup hours. Front desk, concierge, bell desk and outsourced storage may have different authority; a message from a general booking agent is not necessarily parcel approval. Unstaffed lodging, shared accommodation, group bookings and multiple boxes need especially explicit confirmation. If the booking is through an agency, include the hotel’s own confirmation number when available; agency references do not always match the number visible at reception. Once the item ships, send the tracking number and expected arrival date through the same conversation.
A suitcase is not automatically “just another parcel”
Ordinary courier delivery and luggage-transfer services make different promises. A hotel-to-hotel suitcase transfer needs cooperation at both ends: the departure desk must release the bag to the driver, and the destination desk must accept it under the correct reservation. Cutoff times, service areas, and excluded items belong to the carrier, not the hotel.
That distinction is the source of much of the confusion in traveler discussions about luggage delivery in Korea. Advice about leaving a bag at the same hotel, using a station locker, and booking a dedicated transfer service often gets mixed together even though those are separate arrangements. Confirm the exact handoff at both hotels rather than relying on a general comment that “hotels hold luggage.”
If the hotel says no
A refusal is useful information before the bag moves. You can delay the shipment until after check-in and receive it yourself, use a staffed luggage counter or dedicated transfer service, or choose a locker that fits the bag. For a parcel or suitcase you cannot route through reception, check nearby Delivery Spots and confirm the listing’s accepted item type, hours, and storage conditions before you go.
Do not send first and hope the desk makes an exception, pressure staff, leave an item unattended in the lobby or use another guest’s reservation name. If an approved item is refused or missing, keep the tracking scan, label photo and written approval. Ask the carrier where and to whom it was handed over; ask the hotel to check only the named receiving point; ask the seller or sender about redelivery or return. These are separate roles, and neither a delivery scan nor a hotel reservation alone proves the hotel accepted custody. Build enough time before checkout for tracing, redelivery or return. A returned parcel can spend days moving in the wrong direction; one clear message before pickup is the cheaper fix.
