Buy T-money at Incheon Airport: Where and How Much to Load

After customs, look for a convenience store currently listed in the public arrivals area, buy a standard physical T-money card, and ask to load KRW 10,000 in Korean-won cash. The card purchase price is separate from the stored balance; special designs can cost more. If you want enough room for several first-day bus or subway rides without reloading, start with KRW 20,000 instead. This is a practical default, not a universal itinerary total.

Buy before following the train signs

Incheon Airport's directory has listed 24-hour CU and GS25 branches across the public areas of Terminals 1 and 2. Exact shop position, hours and stock can change, so use the live airport directory rather than an old photo. Every standard T-money performs the same transit function even when the design differs. A useful request is “티머니 카드 하나 주세요. 만 원 충전해 주세요”—one T-money card, please; load KRW 10,000. The cashier may charge the card and balance separately.

Why KRW 10,000 is a starting buffer

The August 11, 2026 fare snapshot put all-stop AREX at KRW 4,750 from Terminal 1 to Seoul Station and KRW 5,350 from Terminal 2; Hongik University was KRW 4,650 and KRW 5,250. Seoul's base transit fare started at KRW 1,550. Therefore KRW 10,000 covered that airport ride and at least two separately charged base-fare rides. Longer routes cost more and transfers can cost less. Recalculate if fares change; the official guide says physical-card reloads use Korean-won cash in KRW 1,000 increments, and the card price itself is not stored value.

Blue all-stop and orange Express are different

T-money pays the blue-sign all-stop AREX. The orange-sign Express Train is a separate reserved-seat product requiring its own ticket before boarding. Adding money to T-money does not buy the Express ticket. If you take only one all-stop ride without buying T-money, AREX also sells a single-use ticket; the checked guide stated a KRW 100 surcharge over the transport-card fare plus a refundable KRW 500 deposit. Follow the live terminal signs because fixtures can move.

Keep arrival simple

Do not make the arrivals hall a card-shopping project. Clear customs, find a listed store, buy a standard card, load a modest cash balance, then follow blue signs for the all-stop train. If you choose Express, buy its ticket and keep the T-money value for Seoul. Compare tourist payment cards or unlimited-period products only if they solve a specific need; they are not necessary for an ordinary first ride.
