Which Jeju Olle Trail Should a Beginner Walk? Choose Route 6

Choose Jeju Olle Route 6 if you have time for only one trail and want the best all-round beginner walk without a car. Its current official profile is 10.1 km, 3–4 hours and one-star difficulty; Route 7 is longer and harder, while Gapado's Route 10-1 adds a ferry to the day.

Why Route 6 is the one-route answer

Route 6 begins at Soesokkak Bridge and finishes at the Jeju Olle Tourist Center in central Seogwipo. Between those two pins, it moves through Bomok village, shoreline paths, the Seogwipo KAL Hotel coast, Lee Jung-seop Street and the area around Maeil Olle Market. You get several versions of Jeju in one walk instead of spending the whole day on one kind of landscape.

The practical advantage appears in the second half. Route 6 enters built-up Seogwipo, where stopping for food or ending early is less awkward than on a long rural section. The official route page points walkers toward restaurants near Jeongbang Falls, Lee Jung-seop Street and Maeil Olle Market, so lunch does not need to be carried from the start.

One detail matters when comparing guides: older posts may still describe Route 6 as roughly 13 km. The current Jeju Olle page lists 10.1 km. Route alignments change, so plan from the live official page rather than a saved blog itinerary.

Route 7 is the sea-first alternative

Route 7 is the stronger choice if your mental picture of an Olle walk is cliffs, black rock and an almost continuous pull toward the water. It starts at the Jeju Olle Tourist Center, passes Oedolgae and Subong-ro, and ends at Seogwipo Bus Terminal. That terminal finish is unusually convenient for a no-car walker.

The trade-off is real: Route 7 is currently 12.9 km and rated two stars, although the official time remains 3–4 hours. Do not read the similar time estimate as equal effort. The extra distance and rougher coastal sections make Route 7 a better fit for someone who already knows they can walk steadily for several hours.

Choose it over Route 6 when one long coastal sequence is worth more to you than markets, city streets and an easier overall profile.

Gapado is short, but the ferry runs the day

Gapado's Route 10-1 looks unbeatable on paper: 4.2 km, 1–2 hours and one-star difficulty. The path crosses low fields and a small inhabited island, with the sea rarely out of sight. If a 10 km day feels too ambitious, this is the clearest shorter option.

It is not the simplest no-car day. You must first reach Unjin Port, match the passenger-ferry schedule, walk the route, and return on a sailing. Check the operator's live service and reservation page before leaving your accommodation; a short trail does not help if the ferry timing does not fit.

Short also does not mean universally accessible. The official Route 10-1 page separately gives its wheelchair-accessible section a three-star difficulty rating. Anyone planning around mobility needs should read that section in full instead of relying on the route's overall one-star label.

The no-car test

Route 6 and Route 7 work best from a Seogwipo base. Route 6 finishes at the Tourist Center, and Route 7 starts there before ending at the bus terminal. That shared anchor makes either walk easier to fit around dinner or a return to accommodation than a trail on the far side of the island.

For Route 6, search the official start name, Soesokkak Bridge, and the finish, Jeju Olle Tourist Center, on the day you walk. Use the Jeju Bus Information System for current arrivals and route changes; copying a bus number from an old post is the quickest way to build a plan around a service that has moved. The official Olle pages also hand each endpoint to Naver Map and KakaoMap.

Route 7 removes one return-trip uncertainty because the finish is the bus terminal. Route 10-1 adds another layer because its trailhead is on Gapado, beyond the mainland bus ride and ferry. That is why the shortest course is not automatically the easiest day.

Once transport is counted, the three choices separate cleanly:

• Walk Route 6 for the most balanced first experience and the best overall fit without a car.
• Walk Route 7 for bigger coastal drama and a bus-terminal finish, accepting a harder trail.
• Walk Route 10-1 for the shortest walking distance, only after the ferry is confirmed.

For most beginners choosing exactly one, Route 6 wins because it offers enough sea to feel unmistakably Jeju and enough city at the end to keep the day flexible.
